International Day of Women & Girls in Science

On December 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to establish February 11 as the first annual International Day of Women & Girls in Science. “As a woman scientist, I salute this initiative. Promotion of gender equity in science and gender representation in national academies constitutes a key element of my mission as President of the Royal Society of Canada”, states Maryse Lassonde.

The Royal Society of Canada is committed to recognizing outstanding female scientists from across the country, and is working towards the goals established by the Committee on Equity and Diversity to see the number of women elected to the Society increase each year.
