Federal Sustainability Development Strategy Response

The federal government has invited the RSC to provide feedback on its 2016-2019 Federal Sustainability Development Strategy. The strategy will set the federal government’s environmental sustainability agenda for the next three years—its vision for a more sustainable Canada, the goals and targets it will strive to meet, and its plans to achieve them. The RSC received feedback from 23 Fellows and College Members on the five goals identified by the strategy, which was compiled and shared with the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

The RSC is pleased to have been invited to provide this input, and strongly supports the recent shift in the federal government towards a greater interest in gathering and using science-advice on matters of importance to Canada and Canadians. Assessment and advice is a very important part of the mandate of the RSC.
