Dalhousie University held a very successful Open Academy event. The event was comprised of a special performance of 2b theatre company’s original medical drama The Story of Mr. Wright and a post-show panel discussion with a member of the creative team and two academic experts. In the post-show discussion, audience members and panelists explored some of the key medical and ethical themes of the play: hope, vulnerability, paternalism, deception, and the promises and perils of deliberately enhancing the placebo effect in clinical contexts. The event brought together a highly diverse group of university students, health care professionals, ethics experts, and patients receiving care at a local community health clinic. The play and panel discussion took place at the Neptune Studio Theatre in Halifax, NS, on October 24th, 2012 from 7-9pm.
